19th International Understanding Day of SMK La Salle!

hey everyone!! sorry bout me being alittle too busy.... anyway! here it is! hhahahaha

On the 16th of June, 2007, the Interact Club of SMK La Salle, Klang succeeded in organizing their 19th International Understanding Day, with this time around, having a whole new twist; we organized it in Crystal Crown Hotel's Crown Hall!

Preparations had been made earlier on since a month ago, and we had a whole rehearsal a day before; 15th of June, Friday. Registration begun at 8.45am, and even before that allocated time, lots of people were already anxious to register to get into the huge Crown Hall. Precisely 8.59am, the main two entrances to the Crown hall were shut tight, and no one was allowed to get in or out until the opening of our function is done. We asked Rtn Anthony Das, how many seconds were they left to 9am and he told us 20 more seconds. And so, the countdown begun.

3...2...1....and BOOM! We fired large party poppers at a wild, and followed it through with a Sports Fashion Show while playing the song, “I'm too sexy”. The crowded were so astonished as to how we managed to time the opening so awesomely. Then, the organising team were called up on stage by the “decoy” emcees; Abdullah and Syaril. Directly after the organising team went down off the stage. All the lights were switched off and there was total darkness. This was the time we switched on the projector to show the crowd a video of our “Breaking News” which was done a day before. Now in that video, it shows the real emcees being beaten up in the toilet and then left unconscious on stage. Soon after the video, lights were turned on and to the crowds amazement, our real emcees Kuharaj and Prethpal Singh were already on stage and were up and running.

At about 9.15am after the opening ceremony had been done to do with, the two entrances of the Crown Hall were finally left unlocked and all “late” participants were allowed to get in. It was then time for a Roll Call for all the schools to stand up and cheer to show themselves. When the Interact Club of SMK La Salle Klang was called up, all our members stood up and did our “Tepuk La Sallian”.

After the KICK OFF, which was the Roll Call, we then invited interactors to come on stage to lead the singing of our national anthem, “Negaraku” and then Vivala Interact.

Next up were the speeches. Up first, Abdullah, the I.U. Director gave a speech on the theme of the event, “La Sfera” which meant “The Sphere” and how it is connected to unity and independence. Secondly, our very own President of the Interact Club of SMK La Salle Klang gave us an awesome addition to the speech on our theme. Then, our teacher advisor, Pn Jasvir Kaur, said a few words on how she was very proud of the interactors this year who have worked long and hard to make todays function a memorable one. What surprised all the La Salle interactors was when Rtn. Anthony Das gave his speech saying that the Interact Club of SMK La Salle, is the FIRST interact club this year to begin their I.U. Day, exactly on time; Then Rtn. P.P Master A.R. Peter gave us some motivational speech to all the interactors that made us think more like adults opening our minds to what we can become in the future through being an Interactor.

At 9.40am was when we had our video on the explanation of our theme, La Sfera. We portrayed our theme through a football match between Liverpool and AC Milan and how Liverpool won by catching up the score from 0 – 3, to 3 -3. The Crown Hall must have been full of Liverpool fans because during the entire five minute video, the participants got off their seats and started cheering on and on. It was a spectacular sight to see all the participants enjoying themselves on our event and next time, we should have served popcorn too!

After the first half of our event, we had many performances. Our first performance was a band by William and Nigel who entertained us with a song by incubus and also another called, “kenangan terindah”. The second performance was by our young and talented Form 2's playing chinese yoyo's. Despite being so young, they showed some great command of the yoyo and we can't imagine just how good they will be as they progress the following years to come. The next performance was by our 3rd placing Idol Day Winner, Kwan Ee Ling who sang for us “Seindah Biasa” by Siti Nurhaliza.

At about 10.10am we had a game called, “The Whipped Cream”. The objective of the game was to get a pair of people, and the girl will have to feed the guy with whipping cream until a whole plate's worth of it is clean. Fortunate for us, there were many people who happily volunteered to participate in this game.

After the games, we had two singing performances by Sheenee, and Nor Hidayu, a sketch by our talented Drama crew members who never failed to make anyone laugh and finally a special performance for everyone, a dance performance by our very own members! This dance was just practiced by our interactors about 3 days or so. And at about three quarters through the dance, the crowd went wild and jumped on stage to dance with us.

After our dance, we gave souvenirs to all the schools who attended our event. Then we handed our the hampers to winners of our “Guess Guli – Guli Contest” and “Ball Bonanza”. Surprisingly enough, the winner of both the contest were by the same person from High School Klang, everyone was congratulating him!

Overall, our 19th International Understanding Day was a great success when compared to the previous years. This year, we had a full house, not forgetting a better theme, amazing cooperation, and of course a better venue. We even had people coming from schools which had never come for our I.U Day's before, like SMK Batu Unjur and SMK Kwang Hwa. We hope that all the schools will give their continuous support towards our events in the years to come.

ps : this is actually a report from our part time secretary! hahaha

and YES! WE STARTED ON TIME!

The Choice and the Chance

When we meet the right person to love
when we're at the right place at the right time,

That's chance.

When you meet someone you're attractedto,
that's not a choice.

That's chance.

Being caught up in a moment
(and there's a lot of couples
who get together because of this)
is not a choice.

That's also a chance.

The difference is what happens
afterwards. When will you take that infatuation,
that crush, that mind-blowing attraction to the next level?
That's when all sanity goes back,
you sit down and contemplate whether you want to
make this into
a concrete relationship
or
just a fling.

If you decide
to love a person, even with his
faults, that's not a chance.

That's choice.

When you choose to be with a person,
no matter what, that's choice.
Even if you know there are
many people out there who are more
attractive, smarter, and richer than your mate,
and yet,
you decide to love your mate just the same,

Thats Choice.

Infatuation, crushes, attraction
comes to us by chance.

But true love that lasts is truly a choice.

A choice that we make.

Regarding soul mates, there's a beautiful movie quote that
I believe is so true about this:

" Fate brings you together, but it's still up to you to make it happen."

I do believe that soulmates do exist.
That there is truly someone made for you.

But it's still up to you to make the choice if you're going to
do something about it or not.

We may meet our soulmates by chance,
but loving and staying with our soul mates
is still a choice we have to make..
